Michel And Henry Go To War (The French Bastard Book 1)

Michel And Henry Go To War (The French Bastard Book 1)

France, 1917. The illegitimate son of the French President is forbidden from joining the fray as a common soldier, but he isn’t about to let The Great War pass him by. Under an assumed name, Michel enlists with the British and is sent into the thick of action, again and again, until he learns what they all eventually learn: a cup of tea really is better than war.

Awarded a week’s leave, Michel and his comrade in arms—Henry—seek rest and recuperation in the mountains. But instead of wine and the daughters of farmers, they find Germans and a secret plot to destroy France’s hub of munitions production. Cut off and outnumbered, they recruit a motley army comprising a women’s auxiliary and an old farmer with a big rifle and bad attitude.

There’ll be no rest for these soldiers, not until Michel and Henry go to war one last time.

A character-rich action and adventure thriller, filled with roguish heroes and sly humor, The French Bastard is sure to please fans of Flashman and Blackadder alike.

“A real page turner.”
“You aren’t going to be mired down by talk of war strategy and General-speak. This is more of a character study and Avan Judd Stallard does it so well.”

It’s a lot more than just war, August 23, 2017

If you are not sure about reading a “war” book, don’t worry. You aren’t going to be mired down by talk of war strategy and general-speak. This is more of a character study and Avan Judd Stallard does it so well. It could be called “The Misadventures of Michel and Henry.” I found myself sad at the loss of life, cheering for brave acts during war, outraged at mistreatment of prisoners, jubilant for the courageous and chuckling with the continual good humor throughout.

This is book 1 of a series and the ending of this book is more like the ending of a chapter in Michel’s life. I look forward to reading the next installment.

Great easy read! I enjoyed the story and following Michel and his unwilling companion Henry on their adventure through the French mountains. The plot was not predictable yet it all made sense and the story fit together well. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
