    What A Pleasant Surprise!, July 31, 2005

This review is from: Country Legends (Audio CD)
Billie Jo Spears from Beaumont, Texas had 26 Billboard hits from 1969-1984. 13 of the 15 tracks on this CD made the charts. High points here are “Blanket On the Ground”, “What I’ve Got In Mind”, “Marty Gray” and “Lonely Hearts Club”. ALSO (!) included is ” ’57 Chevrolet”. This reviewer had not heard that one in years but believes it is one of the essential all time country classics and worth the purchase price by itself. The only tracks that disappoint were two distinctly non-country releases; “What the World Needs Now Is Love” and “Yesterday”- the same one recorded by the Beatles. This reviewer has often heard that BJS is very popular in England. If so, more power to the Brits. BJS sings in a soft, pleasant, thoroughly feminine southern twang that is very easy on the ear. This is solid Countrypolitan music from a lady who has not gotten her full due. The final word here is that this reviewer took a chance on this compilation and is glad he did. Other country fans in the amazon community are urged to do likewise. “BJS Country Legends” appears to be by far the strongest of the lady’s offerings. There is no need to scroll further. If one is to sample BJS, this is the album of choice. Go for it!
