Third in a series of albums about “Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs”. this one is not quite as good as the first two, but Marty Robbins never sang a song that sounded bad!

This cd has been the missing Gunfighter album in Marty’s cd library.. Marty’s song, “Abilene Rose” has never been available anywhere before. It is great to finally have the album where it was originally released on cd. .

Marty Robbins released “The Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs” in 1959.It was the most popular. Then he released “More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs” in 1960 and even later ,in 1963 he released, “Return of the Gunfighter” This “Return” album was not as popular and many of the songs are probably unknown to anyone except the rea diehard Robbins or Gunfighter fans.Six of the 12 songs,”San Angelo”,”Man Walks Among Us”,”The Master’s Call”,”Old Red”,”The Bend In The River”,and”The Red Hills Of Utah”,were written by Marty himself.
The songs are pure western gunfighter/cowboy songs and if you like songs like “Streets of Larado”,”Ruby, don’t Take Your Guns To Town”,,etc.,you’ll like the songs on this album. My favorites are”Man Walks Among Us” ,which laments what the effects of man is having on the deserts and mountains;and “Tall Handsome Stranger”, which considers the thought of the mother on the death of her gunfighter sons.I had never heard these songs.

The mother will cry when she hears the story of brother against brother;and one has to die.”
